Field Consulting supports High Speed Rail Group (HSRG) which brings together high profile companies with relevant experience and an interest in high speed rail, and is committed to supporting the successful delivery of a world-class high speed rail network in Britain.

Our Strategy

We devised a strategy to support, promote and champion the development of HS2, a project that has not been without controversy, via a range of creative political and media tactics to promote the long term benefits and help balance the public debate around the scheme.

We execute a comprehensive programme of proactive media engagement, rebutting negative stories and uniting the industry to speak with one voice to amplify support for what will be a transformative nationwide scheme.

Securing high profile coverage in titles including The Times, The Guardian and City AM as well as trade titles New Civil Engineer and Rail Professional.
We have positioned HSRIL as thought leaders by curating a range of thought pieces and reports on topics including the economic benefits of HS2, jobs and skills, and health and well-being.

In early 2019, we brought national, regional and local leaders together in Birmingham to unveil a giant jigsaw of Britain which highlighted the regional connectivity benefits of HS2. At the event, the HS2 Minister, Mayor of the West Midlands and Leader of Birmingham City Council took part in a photo call which attracted significant media attention including ITV News.

To demonstrate the benefits of the scheme we displayed interactive pop-up displays in the middle of the station concourse at Birmingham New Street where politicians and delegates on their way to Party Conference, as well as members of the public, were able to view model trains and experience a journey on the proposed HS2 route through advanced virtual and augmented reality technology headsets.

We manage and coordinate political engagement across a targeted range of politicians and influencers and run a successful and engaging events programme which brings together key stakeholders. This includes Parliamentary receptions; roundtable dinners; a focussed Party Conference programme including fringe events with both the Transport Secretary and Shadow Transport Secretary and regional focus group sessions which explores the role SMEs can play in the delivery of high speed rail.

We manage the HSRG annual conference, hosted in key cities along the line of route, which attract over 200 delegates including politicians, senior industry figures and local authority figures from across the UK who come together to champion the benefits of HS2.


As a result of our efforts we have broadened and deepened support for the project. Our communications strategy has ensured that HS2 remains a government commitment despite significant opposition. HSRG is now widely regarded as having one of the most authoritative voices on high speed rail in the industry and continues to work closely with HS2 Ltd and the Department for Transport to promote the far-reaching benefits of the project.
